Places That Build Their Dreams
Standing over three- feet high, Places That Build Their Dreams is fashioned by hand and decorated in the blue and white of the late 18th century chinoiserie-inspired Willow pattern, but resonant also of the indigo-coloured fabrics of his Nigerian heritage – pays tribute to Ilori’s multi-cultural childhood home in Islington and the lives of immigrant families in the UK. With a photograph of the estate where he grew up wrapped around its centre and an intricate dove crowning its top to represent peace, Ilori has chosen to mix the patterns swathing both the neck and base of the trophy to reflect the crossroads of life and hope he draws from the past, present and future.
